Filcolana

Filcolana is a Danish yarn company with a rich heritage dating back to 1952. Based in Kjellerup, Denmark, the brand was originally established by the Hald family, later managed by the Olsen family, and since 2009 has been owned and directed by Nanna Gudmand-Høyer. Under her leadership, Filcolana has grown into a beloved name in the world of knitting and fibre arts, known for its Scandinavian aesthetic, ethical values, and commitment to quality.

Filcolana sources only high-quality, mulesing-free wool—primarily from Peru—and mohair from South Africa. These fibres are spun in carefully selected mills in Peru, England, and Italy. The yarn is then dyed using certified EU-approved dyes, ensuring safety and sustainability. Finished skeins are labeled, packaged, and shipped from their warehouse in Kjellerup, where Filcolana maintains its strong connection to Danish craftsmanship and environmentally conscious production.

What truly sets Filcolana apart is its close collaboration with Scandinavian designers. They create thoughtfully curated color palettes and original patterns across well-loved yarn lines such as Arwetta, Tilia, Pernilla, Alva, Peruvian Highland Wool, and Saga. Arwetta, for example, is a soft, durable merino/nylon blend ideal for socks and garments, praised for its versatility and wide range of colors.
