Knitting Level 2: Cabled Toque

Welcome back! If you've conquered the basics covered in our Knitting Level 1 class, you are ready for Knitting Level 2. In this class, you will make a toque to expand your knitting skillset. 

The pattern is provided for this class, but students are required to purchase their own yarn, needles, and notions. Students get a 15% discount on materials purchased for their class.

Supplies to Purchase

  • 100 g of Worsted/Aran weight yarn in a light or bright colour. Suggested:
    • Berroco Ultra Alpaca, Berroco Vintage, Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok, De Rerum Natura Gilliatt, Drops Nepal, Malabrigo Rios, Novita 7 Brothers
  • 4 mm (US 6), 40 cm (16”) circular knitting needle
  • 5 mm (US 8), 40 cm (16”) circular knitting needle
  • 5 mm (US 8) double pointed needles
  • Cable needle
  • Tapestry needle
  • 5 stitch markers,one should be a locking stitch marker

Lesson Plan

Class 1

  • Knit a swatch in the round (strands at back)
  • Long-Tail Cast On
  • How to join ribbing without twisting stitches.
  • Homework: Finish the ribbing

Class 2

  • Troubleshoot any problems with ribbing
  • Recap on pattern reading/common abbreviations  
  • Start cables, using markers to keep track of pattern repeats 
  • How to follow written or charted instructions. 
  • Homework: Knit until time to start the decreases

Class 3

  • Learn decreases: SSK, K2tog, cable decrease

Class 4

  • Finish up toque 
  • Weaving in tails
