Knitting Level 5: Intarsia

Loading...

Explore the fantastic possibilities of colourwork knitting! Intarsia is one form of colourwork which allows you to introduce colour and pattern without carrying floats behind your work. This form of colourwork is always in style and this class will give you the skills to take on a larger project. In this workshop you will learn the basics of working intarsia flat in a two-colour small project.

Length: 2 sessions x 2 hours

Pattern:  Provided during class

    You will learn how to:

    • Work two-colour intarsia flat
    • Changes on knit and purl rows
    • Manage multiple yarns
    • Follow a chart

    You should know how to:

    • Knit and purl
    • Cast on and bind off
    • Follow a pattern
    • Pick up a dropped stitch

      Beehive will provide:

      • Heart Warmer pattern by Nicole Bottles
      • Resources page

      You need to bring:

      • 2 colours of worsted weight yarn
        • Main Colour (light colour)  15g or approximately 30m
        • Contrast Colour 5g or approximately 10m
      • 3.75 mm (US 5), circular or straight knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge 20 sts x 28 rows)
      • Tapestry
      • Small button

We recommend worsted weight yarn to best suit the pattern, and encourage students to bring in bits of leftover from their stash.

If you wish to use another gauge of yarn, your project will have different dimensions than intended and it may not be functional, but you can use what you have. Please bring the appropriate sized needles for the yarn of your choice if not using worsted.

Students receive a discount code for 15% off of the supplies for their class.
