Knitting Level 3: Top-Down Socks on DPNs

In this class, you will be making a pair of socks from the top down on DPNs. If you would prefer to learn to knit socks from toe up using magic loop, please see our other sock class.

Students are required to purchase their own yarn, needles, and notions. Students receive a discount code for 15% off of the supplies for their class.

You will learn how to:

  • Work in the round on double pointed needles (DPNs)
  • Work a stretchy cast-on
  • Work short rows
  • Pick up stitches
  • Graft using Kitchener stitch
  • Interpret a pattern
  • Fix common mistakes

You should know how to:

  • Knit and purl
  • Cast on
  • Decrease
  • Work in the round
  • Follow a pattern
  • Pick up a dropped stitch

    You need to bring:

    • 150 g of chunky weight yarn that knits to 15–16 stitches/4” (eg. Berroco Vintage Chunky). Light or bright shades are preferable.
    • 5.0 mm (US 8) double pointed needles (DPNs)
    • 1 stitch marker
    • Measuring tape
    • Tapestry needle
