Crochet Level 2: Textured Toque

Welcome back! If you've conquered the basics covered in our Level 1 class, you are ready for Level 2. In this course, you will make a toque to expand your crochet skillset.

Students are required to purchase their own yarn, hooks, pattern, and notions. Students get a 15% discount on materials purchased for their class.

Supplies to Purchase

  • Approx. 25g spare yarn in a similar weight yarn for learning
  • Approx 250-300m worsted/aran weight yarn. Suggested:
    • Berroco Ultra Alpaca, Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok, De Rerum Natura Gilliatt, Drops Nepal
  • Meadowlark Toque by Janine Myska. Available for purchase on Ravelry.
  • 4.5 mm (US 7) and 5.5 mm (US I-9) crochet hooks, or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • 3 locking stitch markers
  • Tape measure

Lesson Plan:

Class 1

  • Refresh on basic stitches
  • Pattern reading and stitch counting 
  • Make swatch for slip stitch ribbing and main stitch pattern
  • Homework: Finish and block swatches

Class 2

  • Start project
  • Troubleshoot mistakes
  • Discuss how to customize a pattern for fit
  • Homework: Finish slip stitch ribbing

Class 3

  • Join ribbing and pick up stitches
  • Crochet in a spiral
  • Start main stitch pattern
  • Learn to read your work in texture stitch
  • Homework: Crochet until desired length before decreases

Class 4

  • Learn decreases
  • Finish project
  • Weave in tails
